Allwyn is on a mission to transform the UK’s National Lottery, the firm’s Chief Operating Officer, Jan Matuska, explained to SBC in Barcelona last month.
Prior to joining a panel discussion on the lottery sector at the SBC Summit Barcelona, Matuska sat down with SBC to provide an inside view into the company’s British ambitions.
“The UK is a jewel in the crown, you need to make this happen and you need to make this right,” he said, summarising Allwyn’s reasons for and approach to securing the Fourth National Lottery Licence.
Having been awarded the 10-year contract by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) last year, the company acquired outgoing operator and third licence holder Camelot, to help facilitate a smooth transition.
The firm is readying itself to take on UK licence duties on 1 February 2024, in what will be both a transformational moment for both the lottery and Allwyn, but Matuska emphasised the importance of ensuring the customer experience remains consistent.
“We are very confident (in our ability to) deliver and we will transform and rejuvenate the entire lottery segment in the UK to make it more attractive for the consumers.”
“There is a lot of innovation coming over the next year and we will be looking to address a broader customer base than ever before.”
The UK is of course not Allwyn’s only territory, however, as the company has a presence throughout Europe, in Austria, Greece, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Italy and now the US, the latter having also been secured via its takeover of Camelot.
This has given Allwyn a podium spot to observe changing consumer behaviour and the significance of ESG, as Matuska explained, but above all the firm remains committed to a primary objective, he summarised – that being to ‘make lotteries better’.
