ESPN BET will be going live on Tuesday, Nov. 14, partners ESPN and PENN Entertainment announced Thursday morning.
The betting app is not yet available for download, but a trailer for it — featuring SportsCenter anchor Scott Van Pelt — has been released and can be viewed at ESPNBET.com.
Subject to licensing approvals in each of 17 states, the companies said, the ESPN BET app will be available in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The launch date allows the mobile sportsbook app to be up and running prior to the high-profile Monday Night Football game on ESPN on Nov. 20, the Super Bowl rematch between the Chiefs and Eagles.
In addition to the app launch, ESPN announced the Daily Wager program will be rebranded as ESPN BET Live beginning Nov. 10.
The company also announced a sweepstakes competition for a chance to win a trip to ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut ahead of the launch.
Busy few months
PENN Entertainment upended the sportsbook landscape in August when it announced a 10-year partnership with ESPN to create an online sportsbook taking the place of PENN’s Barstool Sportsbook.

Previously, PENN had teamed up with — and eventually purchased — Barstool Sports, using the Dave Portnoy-led brand as its sportsbook partner. In the end, PENN sold Barstool back to Portnoy for $1.
PENN’s deal with ESPN will see the “Worldwide Leader” receive $1.5 billion over 10 years for use of the ESPN name, and ESPN has the right to purchase $500 million in warrants for the purchase of 31.8 million shares of PENN stock that will vest during the duration of the 10-year agreement.
PENN hopes to reach a 20% market share for the ESPN BET sportsbook product.
