The fast-paced, penultimate event of the 2023 World Series of Poker Europe ferstival has found Germany’s Bernd Gleissner earning the first WSOP gold bracelet of his career on Sunday. Gleissner outraced a 182-player win in Event #14: €1,100 NLH Turbo Freezeout, to walk away with the bracelet and the event’s €46,700 top prize.
Gleissner, whose first name is alternately spelled “Berndt” in some online databases, registered his 14th WSOP cash in this event. The triumph pushed him over $200,000 in career WSOP earnings, while his total lifetime recorded winnings are now nearly $650,000. Gleissner also became the 11th first-time bracelet winner in 13 events completed to date in the 2023 WSOP Europe festival.
Germany and Italian players dominate top spots
The speedy turbo-formatted event fit well beside the ongoing Main Event at Kings Casino, where Day 2 action in the Main Event occupied most of the available playing space. The turbo freezeout event, with no re-entries permitted, played into the money in just six hours, and its winner – Gleissner – was determined in just four and a half hours more.
Though the usual international mix of players took part, the final table quickly became an all-Germany-and-Italy affair as players from those two countries swept the top six spots. Gleissner eliminated Italian Candido Gabrielle Cappiello for the title, leaving Cappiello to collect €28,800 as the runner-up. Germany’s Moritz Dietrich placed third for €28,800, and Italians Simone Piazzini, Alessandro Predaroli, and Veronica Tuscano finished in spots four through six.
