The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has formally announced that Carl Brincat will conclude his tenure as CEO in January 2024.
The announcement sees the MGA undertake an executive search to find Brincat’s successor, who has led the Maltese authority since January 2021 proceeding former CEO Heathcliff Farrugia.
Prior to serving as CEO, Brincat held several prominent roles within the MGA’s organisation, including Chief Legal and Enforcement Officer, Chief Legal Counsel, and Deputy General Counsel.
Key initiatives saw Brincat serve as a key stakeholder in amendments applied to the Malta Gambling Law, strengthening policies on AML safeguards, sports integrity and operator conduct and liabilities.
Brincat expressed his pride in the work accomplished and gratitude towards the highly motivated team at the MGA. Reflecting on his time at the MGA, Brincat shared: “Leaving the MGA is a very hard decision to make. The past nine years have been a rollercoaster of experiences which contributed to the person I am today. It has been a privilege to lead the Authority for the past three years.”
MGA Chairman Ryan Pace spoke highly of Brincat’s contributions to strengthening the MGA, stating: “Carl has made extensive contributions to the MGA and to the gaming industry in Malta. We are confident in, and very thankful for, the strong foundation he leaves behind as we continue to pursue the MGA’s strategic goals.”
The process to find Brincat’s successor is set to begin shortly, with the MGA launching a ‘public call for applications’.
The chosen candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with Brincat in the weeks leading up to his departure on 25 January, ensuring a smooth transition of leadership.
