The UK Gambling Commission has published its latest report on the local gambling industry revealing that online gross gambling yield (GGY) for Q2 23-24 came to £1.2 billion.
The report covers the period from July 2023 – September 2023 and includes a detailed breakdown of online and in-person gambling revenues, active customer accounts, and activity according to sector.
Key Highlights
Online GGY – £1.2 billion, up by 0.6 percent from Q2 in the previous year.
Total bets and/or spins up by 10% year-on-year.
Average monthly active accounts increased 7%.
Sports betting GGY – £428 million, down by 5% year-on-year.
Sports bets decreased by 1%.
Active sports betting accounts decreased by 0.2%.
Slots GGY – £589 million, up by 8% year-on-year.
The number of spins increased 11%.
Average monthly active accounts up by 11% to 3.8 million.
The report also shows that online slots sessions which last for longer than an hour increased by 4% compared to the same quarter in the previous year. However, the average session length dropped to 17 minutes while around 7% of all online slots sessions lasted for more than an hour.
Licensed betting operators (LBOs) reported a decrease in GGY to £539 million.
According the latest UK gambling stats and trends the remote gaming sector (online gambling) which now accounts for roughly 40% of gambling revenues generated each year.
UKGC New Commissioners
The Gambling Commission has also announced that the UK Secretary of State has appointed seven Commissioners to the Gambling Commission. The commissioners took up their roles the 11th of September 2023.
Charles Counsell, Helen Dodds, Sheree Howard and Claudia Mortimore have been appointed for terms of five years.
Lloydette Bai-Marrow, Helen Philips and David Rossington have been appointed for terms of four years.
